Men’s Volleyball to visit No. 6 Belmont Abbey in first round of Conference Carolinas Tournament on Wednesday

BELMONT, N.C. –  The Lees-McRae men's volleyball team, under first-year head coach Pono Yin, will make their second consecutive appearance in the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament as it visits No. 6 Belmont Abbey as the No. 7 seed in the first round on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. The Bobcats entered last year's tournament as the No. 8 seed, before falling short against No. 5 King in the first round.
 
The winner of Wednesday's first round contest will advance to the quarterfinals against No. 3 Mount Olive on Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in Mount Olive, North Carolina. For more information on the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship and to see the full bracket, click HERE.
 
Scouting the Bobcats…The Bobcats closed out the regular season with a 3-0 win over Barton last Saturday to notch their seventh win on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court and finish with an 8-14 overall record (4-10 record in the Conference Carolinas). Junior Michael Marsans leads the nation with a 5.38 kills/set average this season and has tallied 382 kills this season, which ranks as the fourth-most kills in a single season in program history. Junior Bradley Peters has tallied a team-high 627 assists (8.47 asts/set) and 29 service aces this season.
 
Scouting the Crusaders…The Crusaders closed the regular season on a six-match losing streak to finish with a 14-15 overall record (5-9 Conference Carolinas record), including a five-set loss at Lees-McRae on March 16. Junior Matteo Miselli and senior Andrew Kohut lead Belmont Abbey with 330 and 299 kills respectively this season and rank fourth (3.55 kills/set) and fifth (3.29 kills/set) in the league this season. Freshman Jack Walsh ranks third in the Conference Carolinas with 846 assists this season.
 
The Rivalry…Lees-McRae is 8-13 all-time against the Crusaders, but have split the season series in each of the previous two seasons. The Bobcats' last win at Belmont Abbey came on Feb. 25, 2014.
