Deanna Betzer garnered All-Conference Carolinas honors with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, while
Britney Augustin,
Zai Fraser,
Jean Origene,
Brennen Pierce, and
Christian Bargaineer all set themselves up for a strong second day by finishing in the top-three in the preliminary rounds of their respective events, to lead the Lees-McRae men's and women's outdoor track & field teams on the opening day of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
THE BASICS
MEET: Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships
LOCATION: University of Mount Olive – Mount Olive, North Carolina
DAY 1 WOMEN'S NOTABLES:
- Betzer crossed second in the 10,000-meter run to garner All-Conference Carolinas Second Team honors with a time of 38:03.07, which broke her previous school record by over 50 seconds.
- Augustin enters the finals on Saturday ranked first in both the 400-meter dash (56.81) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.45). Her time in the 400-meter dash broke her previous school record of 58.67 set back in 2021.
- Fraser crossed third in the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.25, while Augustin finished 10th in the preliminary round with a time of 12.35.
- Aurora Roberts was also 10th in the 400-meter dash preliminary round with a time of 59.62.
DAY 1 MEN'S NOTABLES:
- Bargaineer enters Saturday's finals ranked first in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a time of 14.98 in the preliminary round on Friday.
- Origene, who enters his first outdoor championship, ranks third in both the 100-meter dash (10.67) and the 200-meter dash (21.66), while Pierce crossed third in the preliminary round of the 1,500-meter run (4:00.87).
- Garrett Ybarra and Corimonte Eatmon rank ninth in both the 800-meter run (1:58.90) and the 400-meter hurdles (58.86) preliminary rounds respectively.
- Bargaineer also finished 10th in the long jump competition with a distance of 6.33 meters.
