Women's Volleyball Drops Tough Five-Set Match to Bluefield State on Monday Night

BLUEFIELD, W.Va.  – Lees-McRae women's volleyball battled non-conference opponent Bluefield State on Monday in five sets as the Big Blue prevailed with the victory. Madison Goins led the Bobcats with 18 assists as Bre Adamson added 17 digs on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae collected the first set of the evening by a final of 25-21 after a three-point run to close the opening stanza. The Bobcats had a hitting percentage of .242 to Bluefield State's 0.077 in the opening frame with Lees-McRae tallying 13 total kills.
  • The Big Blue answered the first-set win by the Bobcats by grabbing the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-18 as an eight-point run by Bluefield State garnered the second set win.
  • In the fourth set, the Bobcats knotted the match at two sets apiece with the 25-19 set victory as Destiny Holley and Julia Emore combined for back-to-back kills to send the match to the fifth set. Bluefield State used an early four point swing in their favor as the Big Blue earned the set at 15-9 and match victory.
  • Annalaine Tew joined Holley with 10 kills each in the match as Emore notched seven kills in the contest.
  • Adamson contributed three service aces to her season-high 17 digs on the night.
  • Goins dished out 18 assists to go along with seven digs as Emore followed with 17 assists.

FOR THE BIG BLUE:
  • Allyson Martin and Kateryna Dashevska led the Big Blue with 16 and 11 kills respectively as Dashevska tallied a double-double with 19 assists.
  • Aydan Dalak followed with 14 assists to go along with five digs and Veronica Butler had a match-high 24 digs in five sets.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae opens Conference Carolinas play with Converse on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Williams Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The match is also the Bobcats' home opener for the 2022 campaign.
