NEWBERRY, S.C. – Lees-McRae women's volleyball faced off against Valdosta State twice this afternoon as the Blazers earned both matches in straight sets in Newberry'
's Eleazer Arena.
GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Valdosta State def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-20)
LOCATION: Eleazer Arena – Newberry, South Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (0-7), VSU (3-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The second set looked to go the way for the Bobcats as they started the set with three straight points and held a 9-3 set lead. Lees-McRae held the late advantage at 23-21 before Valdosta State rallied to win the set 25-23 via four consecutive kills.
- Hailey Gilreath and Destin Holley paced the Bobcats with six kills apiece as Holley had a solid hitting percentage at .455 in the match.
- Madison Goins collected 12 assists in the contest and earned two service aces.
- Bre Adamson led on the defensive front for Lees-McRae with a team-high 11 digs.
FOR THE BLAZERS:
- Jojo Smith, Christina Pettigrew, and Mallory Roney all had 10 kills in the three-set victory for Valdosta State as Smith tallied a double-double with 11 digs.
- Lyara Rosario collected a match-high 19 digs and Giulia Dias dished out 35 assists for the Blazers.
GAME 2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Valdosta State def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-14)
LOCATION: Eleazer Arena – Newberry, Sout Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (0-8), VSU (4-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sydney Stigler had five kills in three sets as Kayla Myers followed with four and Holley chipped in four.
- Goins collected 13 assists to go along with nine digs.
- Adamson added a team-high 14 digs in the contest.
FOR THE BLAZERS:
- Smith led Valdosta State with 10 kills and Roney followed with eight.
- Ava Young registered five total blocks and Dias tallied 26 assists in the victory.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae will continue its road swing with a match against Bluefield State in Bluefield, West Virginia on Monday, September 12. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
