Men's Basketball Stumbles in Second Half as Emmanuel Secures 74-66 Conference Carolinas Victory

BANNER ELK, N.C. –  Jeremy Golson and Timon Jones each scored 11 points as Lees-McRae men's basketball fell to Emmanuel on Wednesday night, 74-66.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bobcats staked out a six-point lead at 15-9 after a 9-0 run with 13:08 remaining in the first half after a layup via Williams Onyeodi. Lees-McRae regained the two-point advantage after a fastbreak layup by Sidney Dollar and recorded the free-throw make to earn the three-point play.
  • Lees-McRae added to its lead and held the 34-22 margin after a fastbreak layup via LJ Rogers with 5:54 left in the first half. The Bobcats entered the halftime break with a ten-point lead after back-to-back free throws from Justin Nichelson.
  • In the second half, Golson knocked down two free throws to push the Bobcats lead to 12 points, but Emmanuel knotted the score at 47-47 and took the lead after free throws via Kelvin Jones.
  • The Lions held the advantage down the stretch of the second half and left Banner Elk with a 74-66 victory on Wednesday evening.
  • Golson and Jones combined for 22 points on the evening on 7-18 from the field. Jaylin Stewart followed with seven points and Dollar recorded seven in the contest.
  • Lees-McRae shot 39.0% (23-59) from the field and 8-26 (30.8%) from three-point range. The Bobcats went 12-19 from the charity stripe and held the advantage in bench points with 28 to Emmanuel's 16.

FOR THE LIONS:
  • Jones, who entered tonight with a Division II leading 25.3 points per game, scored a game-high 28 points with 18 coming via free throws.
  • Chris Dees followed in the scoring column with 16 points and Jasper Gibson added 15 on 3-9 from three-point range.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's basketball returns to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Saturday, Jan. 21 as the Bobcats welcome Chowan in a conference contest at 4 p.m.
