Women's Basketball's Second-Half Rally Falls Short to Emmanuel, 59-47

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's basketball battled to cut the deficit to five points in the third quarter, but Emmanuel prevailed 59-47 on Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Emmanuel jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but Jala Holloman knocked in her first three-pointer of the game with 3:12 remaining in the first half. The Lions held the early 12-6 margin after ten minutes of play.
  • The Lions took the second quarter by a seven-point swing as Emmanuel entered the halftime break with the 31-18 edge on the Bobcats.
  • Lees-McRae used the third quarter as momentum as Jessica Henderson scored with 8:38 left in the third to cut into Emmanuel's, 31-22. Holloman closed the gap to four after a layup, but Emmanuel held the 40-35 advantage after third period of play.
  • Olivia King opened the fourth quarter with a fastbreak layup to get within one possession of the Lions, but Emmanuel held on for the 59-47 victory on Wednesday night.
  • Holloman led the Bobcats with 11 points to go along with two rebounds and one steal off the bench. Henderson followed with seven and three Bobcats had seven points apiece with King, Sandra Mason, and Dianna Spence.

FOR THE LIONS:
  • Abby Crawford had a game-high 25 points on 9-24 shooting for Emmauel and Jazmin Allen just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
  • Jeanetta Elder added nine points in 33 minutes of action for Lions.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae women's basketball is back on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Saturday, Jan. 21 with a conference showdown against Chowan at 2 p.m.
