Women's Basketball Drops Conference Carolinas Contest to Chowan on Saturday Afternoon

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Arriana Lizarraga scored 12 points on 5-11 shooting as Lees-McRae women's basketball fell to Chowan by a final of 80-42 in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (1-15/0-11), Chowan (11-6/7-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lizarraga scored back-to-back baskets for the Bobcats as they cut Chowan's lead to 14-11 with 4:18 remaining in the first quarter. The Hawks took the first period by a score of 22-15 after 4-0 run in a little over a two-minute span.
  • The Hawks held Lees-McRae scoreless for over five minutes in the second stanza and Chowan entered the break with a 16-point margin.
  • Chowan added to its lead in the second half and secured the 80-42 victory in Banner Elk.
  • Sandra Mason recorded seven points and two rebounds for the Bobcats and Logan Dutka and Jala Holloman each provided five points apiece for Lees-McRae.
  • Jassonia Burleson pulled in a team-high eight rebounds and went 1-1 from the field for the Bobcats.

FOR THE HAWKS:
  • Four Hawks tallied double-digit scoring in the victory as Aniah Patterson led the way 16 points on 6-10 shooting and hauled in four rebounds. Meara Carter followed with 12 points and Jayah King-Johnson and Destiny Robinson added 11 points each in the contest.
  • Chowan forced 29 Bobcat turnovers and scored 29 points off those turnovers. The Hawks went 21-28 from the free-throw line and recorded 14 offensive rebounds in the win.
UP NEXT:
 Lees-McRae women's basketball is now on the road for the next two games as the Bobcats travel to Due West, South Carolina for a league matchup with Erskine on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The contest will start at 5 p.m. with the Flying Fleet.
