Men's Volleyball Battles No. 9 Grand Canyon on Tuesday Night

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – Lees-McRae men's volleyball began their three-game road trip this evening as the Bobcats faced No. 9 Grand Canyon in Phoenix. The Antelopes took the match in three sets and Michael Marsans had a match-high eight kills for Lees-McRae in the contest.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: No. 9 Grand Canyon def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19)
LOCATION: Antelope Gymnasium – Phoenix, Arizona
RECORDS: Grand Canyon (7-0), Lees-McRae (2-2)

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae knotted the first set at four points apiece after Marsans collected his first kill of the match off a Bradley Peters' assist. GCU pulled away with a five-point swing at 17-10 and earned the set at 25-18.
  • In the second set, the Bobcats had an impressive hitting percentage of .364 with 11 total kills, but the Antelopes took the second by a score of 25-17 after GCU had a hitting clip of .524.
  • Austin Beaird and Marsans cut the deficit to one point after back-to-back points with the third set at 12-11, but Grand Canyon used a three-point run at 21-15 to secure the sweep over Lees-McRae this evening.
  • Lees-McRae finished the match with a hitting percentage of .338 and tallied 33 kills in the contest. Marsans finished the night with a hitting percentage of .353 and two digs.
  • Sebastian Heer followed with seven kills on a .778 hitting percentage and Ace Backer added five kills to his season totals. Peters recorded a match-high 27 assists and totaled two kills in the match.


FOR THE ANTELOPES:
  • GCU utilized a balanced attack on the night with 12 Antelopes recording a kill in the three-set sweep. Camden Gianni paced Grand Canyon on the evening with six kills and Jaxon Herr dished out 18 assists in the contest.
 
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's volleyball returns to the Antelope Gymnasium tomorrow evening for the second installment with No. 9 Grand Canyon. The first serve is scheduled for a 8 p.m. EST start in Phoenix.
