Destiny Holley powered the Lees-McRae women's volleyball attack this evening against "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" foe King with 25 kills in the four-set victory on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. King, 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-14, 27-25)
LOCATION: McNair & Debi Tornow Court – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (10-6/7-2), King (6-10/3-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set, the two sides battled with the Bobcats taking the 17-14 lead before King rallied with five consecutive points at 19-17. The Tornado took the opening set at 25-22 after a kill via Kara Miller.
- Lees-McRae bounced back in the second set after trailing late at 22-19. The Bobcats recorded four straight points after a kill from Patrycja Rykala at 23-22, but King held set point at 24-23 from a Bobcat attack error. Lees-McRae stormed back with three straight points after a Rykala kill and a double block from Nina Vallesi and Holley.
- The Bobcats rolled to a set advantage in the third at 25-14 with a .375 hitting percentage and limiting the Tornado attack at 0.037. Holley put an exclamation point on the set with back-to-back kills.
- In the fourth, King rallied after an early 5-0 deficit and held set point at 25-24. Rebecca Ryan and Rykala knotted the score at 25-25 after a double block and Stigler sealed the match with two service aces at 27-25.
- Lees-McRae recorded a .248 hitting percentage with 54 total kills as a team. King was limited to a .155 hitting percentage with 42 kills.
- Holley led the Bobcats with 25 kills on 39 total attempts with four total blocks. Stigler followed with 13 kills, nine digs, and service aces.
- Madison Goins distributed 48 assists to go along with seven digs and two blocks. Rykala had eight kills and Lauren Xayavong collected a match-high 22 digs for the Bobcats.
FOR THE TORNADO:
- Hailee Blankenship led King with 11 kills and 10 digs in the evening. Gracia Love and Riley Nelson collected eight kills apiece in the contest.
