Men's Soccer Rallies for 1-1 Draw at Emmanuel after Pierce's First Collegiate Goal

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. Caden Pierce scored his first collegiate career of his Bobcat career this evening as Lees-McRae men's soccer battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Pierce sent a rocket off his right foot via a pass from Greene Rand in the 21st minute of play as the Bobcats knotted the score at one goal apiece. 
  • Emmanuel got on the board first in the fifth minute of the contest after Matt Fitzer found the back of the net off a pass from Iker Martinez.
  • Owen Smith had the first quality chance for the Bobcats with a shot on target in the 15th minute, but Emmanuel's Joshua Burton made the save. Nils Schulze had an additional shot on goal in the 32nd minute for Lees-McRae  and Jesper Jonsson recorded the last shot on goal of the first half with 12 minutes remaining.
  • Lees-McRae continued with shots on target in the second half with O. Smith at the 59th minute and Harrison Watts in the 81st. Natxo Faus came in relief of Burton in the first half and stopped a total of four shots on the night.
  • Sean Green collected six saves in the league matchup and held on for the 1-1 draw for the Bobcats.
  • Emmanuel had the 18-11 margin in shots and the 7-6 shots on goal advantage. The Lions also earned six corner kicks in the mutual regular season finale.

FOR THE LIONS:
  • Fitzer collected his 10th goal of the season for the Lions in the fifth minute and Faus had four saves in 71 minutes of action in the goal.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to Spartanburg, South Carolina for second time this season to face Converse on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championships. The Valkyries collected both victories against the Bobcats in the regular season.
