Women's Volleyball Continues Winning Ways at Home with Sweep of Chowan

BANNER ELK, N.C.  – Lees-McRae women's volleyball continued their winning ways on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court this afternoon as the Bobcats earned the sweep over Chowan. Sydney Stigler led the Bobcats with 10 kills on a .320 hitting percentage and added four service aces.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Chowan, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae got off to a quick start in the first set with 5-0 run after three service aces by Stigler to begin the set. The Bobcats rolled in the end of set also with six consecutive points at 25-14.
  • Chowan made things interesting in the second set after jumping out to a 17-8 lead, but the Bobcats battled back in big time with a four-point run at 19-15 and evened the set at 20-20 after a Chowan service error. Lees-McRae grabbed the two-set lead via a kill from Stigler and a service ace from Madison Goins at 25-23.
  • The Bobcats had a .280 hitting percentage in the third frame of the match and took the set at 25-15 after a kill from Patrycja Rykala.
  • Destiny Holley and Rykala followed Stigler with eight kills apiece and Nina Vallesi recorded six in today's match. Goins distributed 32 assists and collected a double-double with 10 digs.
  • Since 2013, Lees-McRae holds a 7-0 series lead over Chowan with the Bobcats not dropping a set against the Hawks the last three meetings.
 
FOR THE HAWKS
  • Ryan Nored led Chowan in the attack with six kills and Ellie Middleton added 10 digs along with five kills in the contest.
