Women's Basketball Falls in 67-49 Contest at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – Emily Barr had a team-high 13 points and six rebounds, but Lees-McRae women's basketball dropped tonight's contest at South Atlantic Conference member Mars Hill, 67-49.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae went 17-57 (29.8%) from the floor with four three-pointers and struggled with 22 total turnovers. Mars Hill converted 23 points off of those 22 turnovers and held the advantage inside the paint with 40 points to the Bobcats' 18.
  • The Bobcats held the margin in bench points, 31-13, and went 9-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
  • Barr had 13 points on 4-11 shooting and went 4-9 from the charity stripe. Paris Brown and Sandra Mason each had eight points on the evening with Leah Barringer scoring seven points in 25 minutes of action.
  • Logan Dutka registered four points and Dianna Spence had three points on 1-2 from three-point range. Shayne Burton, Nadiya Hairston, and Aleysha Hill rounded out the scoring for Lees-McRae with two points apiece.
  • Barringer knocked down a three with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter and Barr made a layup at the 1:35 mark of the first period as the Bobcats trailed by three points after the first 10 minutes.
  • Barr pushed the deficit back to seven points off a three with 1:47 left in the first half as Mars Hill led 30-23 at the break.
  • The Lions extended their lead in the second half to 14 points off a three-pointer from Maddie Gillie with seven seconds remaining in the third quarter. Mars Hill secured the victory inside the Stanford Arena by a final of 67-49.

FOR THE LIONS:
  • Mars Hill shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field and went 12-20 from the free-throw line to collect their second victory of the season.
  • Halei Gillis led the Lions with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds, in 24 minutes of action. Janette Hanni followed in double figures with 15 points and Gillie recorded 12 points in a game-high 35 minutes of action.

Lees-McRae women's basketball continues their road trip on Saturday, Nov. 18 when the Bobcats face Allen in Columbia, South Carolina at 3 p.m.
