Men's Basketball Starts Thanksgiving Break with 90-53 Victory over Johnson & Wales

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's basketball started on a 21-0 run against Johnson & Wales this evening and claimed the 90-53 victory over the Wildcats on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. Jeremy Golson led four scorers in double figures with 16 points and LJ Rogers followed with 12 points and four steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae jumped to an early 21-0 lead after Nico Ashley hit the front end of two shots on the free-throw line with 13:58 left in the first half. JWU's Isaiah Escobar hit a three-pointer with 13:15 to play in the first, but the Bobcats with an 8-0 run capped by a jumper via Matthew Knafelz.
  • Ja'Quavian Florence knocked both free throws at 1:53 mark of the first half, but the Wildcats ended the first 20 minutes on a 4-0 to go into the halftime break down 42-16
  • Rogers opened the scoring in the second half with a triple and Lees-McRae pushed their lead to 33 points off another three via Rogers. Adam Norman collected a basket with 24 seconds left in the game as the Bobcats secured the 90-53 victory on Tuesday evening.
  • 12 different Bobcats scored in tonight's game with four tallying double-digit points. Golson had 16 points on 6-12 shooting with six rebounds. Rogers followed with 12 points, four steals, and three rebounds and Ashley narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Florence rounded out the scorers for Lees-McRae in double figures with 10 points, two steals, two assists, and one rebound.
  • Lees-McRae shot 42.4% (36-85) from the floor with nine made three-pointers. The Bobcats held the advantage in points off turnovers (36-9), points in the paint (50-30), second-chance points (16-8), fast break points (18-5), and bench points (42-20).
FOR THE WILDCATS:
  • Kendall Wooldrige had a team-high 10 points in 22 minutes for Johnson & Wales and Escobar recorded nine points off the bench.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's basketball is back on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court for their third consecutive home game on Monday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. against regionally ranked Tusculum.
