Doyle, Marsans, and Peters Lead Men's Volleyball to Four-Set Victory at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's volleyball secured the four-set victory on Saturday afternoon at Mount Olive as M.J. Doyle and Michael Marsans produced double-digit kills for the Bobcats. Marsans recorded a double-double with 12 digs and Bradley Peters had 40 assists in the match.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae def. Mount Olive, 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24)

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (7-6/4-2), Mount Olive (5-10/1-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae held a hitting percentage of .242 to Mount Olive's .176 over the four-set match with the Bobcats having their best hitting percentage in the first set at .333. The Bobcats registered 50 kills on the day to the Trojans' 48.
  • Doyle led the Bobcats in the kills column with 15 in the contest and Marsans followed with 14 kills and 12 digs. Austin Beaird collected seven kills and added five digs to his season totals.
  • Peters started the attack for Lees-McRae with 40 assists and contributed three service aces on the afternoon also. Sebastian Heer accumulated three total blocks and Doyle had a match-high four blocks.
  • In the fourth set, Lees-McRae jumped out to the 14-10 advantage after three consecutive points from the Bobcats. Marsans gave the Bobcats their first match point of the day 24-22, but Mount Olive evened the set at 24-24 with a kill by Trojan Kory Grant. 
  • Marsans gave the Bobcats their second match point of the afternoon with his 14 kill of the day and Marsans connected a service ace to earn the match for Lees-McRae.
  • Sebastian Heer recorded six kills on the afternoon and Vincent Pradarelli had four kills on the day for the Bobcats.
  • Lees-McRae also defeated Mount Olive for the first time since 2009.

FOR THE TROJANS:
  • Kory Grant had a team-high 13 kills for Mount Olive on a hitting percentage of .400 and Tate Sandvig followed with 11. Jackson Lahey came in off the bench for the Trojans as he dished out 33 assists in three sets played.
