BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae women's soccer program opened Conference Carolinas on Saturday afternoon as
Jordan Vaughn scored her first collegiate goal, but the Bobcats fell 2-1 to UNC Pembroke.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maddie Campo secured her first of five saves on the day in the 24th minute after a shot from Brave Abigail Lowry.
- In the 30th minute off a corner kick from Kat Stiles, Vaughn headed a ball into the back of the net to give Lees-McRae the one-goal advantage.
- UNCP had two more shots on target, but the Bobcats went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
- The Braves tied the score at one goal apiece in the 68th minute after Morgan Hill collected a goal into the left side of the net. Maria Cancio gave UNCP the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute off an assist from Anna Grossheim.
- Taylor Barrineau and Lexi Hanson had chances on goal for the Bobcats in the last 10 minutes of the contest, but UNCP picked up the 2-1 win.
- UNCP held the advantage in shots, 15-4, and shot on goal, 7-3, to secure their second conference win of the early season.
FOR THE BRAVES:
- Cancio and Hill tallied the goals for UNC Pembroke with Grossheim earning the assist on the second marker of the day for the Braves.
- Chiara Coppin made two saves in goal for UNCP while conceding one goal on the afternoon.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae returns to Tate Field on Tuesday, Sept. 19 for a league matchup with Southern Wesleyan. The kickoff is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
