Barr Earns Fourth Double-Double of Season; Women's Basketball Falls to Southern Wesleyan, 71-55

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Emily Barr collected her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds, but Lees-McRae women's basketball fell 71-55 to Southern Wesleyan this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Logan Dutka opened the scoring in today's matchup with a three-pointer at the 7:05 mark of the first quarter. Barr added to the Bobcat lead with a jumper 46 seconds later. SWU's Shelby Glance connected on her first three of the day to cut the lead back to two points.
  • Thailand Smith scored on the first of two free throw makes to give Lees-McRae the 17-12 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • Dianna Spence made a three-pointer with 2:23 left in the first half to build Lees-McRae's lead back to five points, but Southern Wesleyan's Asia Pearly collected two points as the Warriors trailed by one point at the halftime break.
  • Southern Wesleyan gained the lead in the second half with 9:14 remaining in the third at 33-32 and claimed an eight-point margin at the end of third.
  • The Bobcats battled back to cut the deficit to four points off two made free throws from Kirsten Watt, but SWU held Lees-McRae to two points in the remaining 5:53 to collect the 71-55 Conference Carolinas win.
  • Barr went an efficient 10-13 from the field with 12 boards, two assists, and one steal. Dutka followed with nine points on three three-pointers. Watt joined Dutka with nine points, three rebounds, and two assists.
  • Spence had six points on 2-4 from three-point range and Leah Barringer and Smith each posted three points in the game.

FOR THE WARRIORS:
  • Shelby Glance guided Southern Wesleyan on the scoring column with 14 points on 5-10 shooting and added eight rebounds and two steals. Lexi Greffen followed with 12 points on 7-11 from the free-throw line.
  • Tristen Berry and Asia Pearly added 12 points in today's victory.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae women's basketball hosts Francis Marion next Saturday, Jan. 13 on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. The contest with the Patriots is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
