Women's Basketball Defeats Albany State, 65-63, on the Road

ALBANY, Ga. – Leah Barringer, Aleysha Hill, and Kirsten Watt recorded double-digit points as Lees-McRae women's basketball collected the 65-63 win at Albany State on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 65; Albany State– 63

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Albany State started the game with a 11-point advantage at the six-minute mark of the first quarter. Shayne Burton got the Bobcats on the board with two free throws and Lees-McRae closed within four at the end of the first at 16-12.
  • In the second period, Lees-McRae used 10 free-throw makes to cut the deficit to one point. Kayli Dunn knocked down two free throws with six seconds in the half as the Bobcats trailed 28-27.
  • Lees-McRae gained its first lead of the game at 36-35 with two free throws from HIll and the Bobcats built an eight-point advantage at the end of the third quarter.
  • The Rams trailed 61-59 with 2:36 left in the fourth quarter, but a layup from Thailand Smith sealed the victory for the Bobcats at 65-63. Albany State missed the game-tying jumper with seven seconds left in the game.
  • Hill paced the Bobcats with 11 points on 2-5 from the field and 6-6 from the charity stripe. Barringer and Watt registered 10 points apiece. Watt had four assists in 38 minutes of play.
  • Sydney Hayes collected nine points off the bench on two three-pointers and 3-3 from the free-throw line. Dunn added seven points in 15 minutes off the bench for the Bobcats.
  • Lees-McRae went 24-28 from the charity stripe and 7-23 from the three-point range.

FOR THE RAMS:
  • Jasirae Vick had a game-high 14 points in 17 minutes for Albany State. Keyra Peterson and Na'Haviya Paxton followed in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Lees-McRae women's basketball opens Conference Carolinas play next Saturday in Young Harris, Georgia with the Mountain Lions at 2 p.m.
