Women's Volleyball Falls to King in "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" Matches

BRISTOL, TENN. – Destiny Holley combined for 19 kills in two matches this evening at King University, but Lees-McRae women's volleyball fell to the Tornado in both matches

GAME 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King def. Lees-McRae, 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20)
LOCATION: Student Center Complex – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (9-10/7-8), Lees-McRae (10-14/2-11)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae evened the match with a 25-20 set win in the second set, but the Tornado used set wins of 25-19 and 25-20 in the third and fourth sets for the victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
  • Holley led the Bobcats with 12 kills on a .435 hitting percentage and added three blocks, two service aces, and two digs.  
  • Nina Vallesi followed Holley with nine kills, nine digs, four blocks, and two aces. Sydney Stigler registered eight kills and three digs in the contest. Karlee Mainor had 30 assists in the four sets played.

FOR THE TORNADO:
  • Gracia Love paced King in the first match of the day with 20 kills on 52 attempts and 14 digs. Bailey Fersner had nine kills and 12 digs.
  • Kylie Love contributed 42 assists in four sets played.
 
GAME 2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-21)
LOCATION: Student Center Complex - Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (10-10/8-8), Lees-McRae (10-15/2-12)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae forced extra points in the first set of the second match of the day, but King earned the opening set at 26-24 and collected the three-set victory on its home court.
  • Stigler and Vallesi matched with nine kills in the contest. Vallesi had seven digs in three sets.
  • Brooke Ashkenase had nine digs at the libero position and Addyson Morgan distributed 26 assists in the match.

FOR THE TORNADO:
  • Gracia Love led King once more in the second match with 15 kills on 35 swings. Riley Nelson had 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage and Gabri Puertas collected 16 digs in three sets.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae plays Conference Carolinas newcomer Shorter on Friday, November 8 at Charlotte Country Day School starting at 7 p.m.
