Men's Basketball Collects 102-91 Victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas Play

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – Lees-McRae men's basketball led wire-to-wire in today's 102-91 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas play. Ja'Quavian Florence led the Bobcats with 27 points on the afternoon and Oli Smith recorded 21 points off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • DJ Kent started the scoring with a layup at the 18:41 mark of the first half and the Bobcats started the game on 16-0 scoring run. Erskine got on the board with a jumper from Christian Monroe with 14:53 left in the first half.
  • The Bobcats added to their lead with a three-pointer from Brandon Brown at the 12:19 mark and led 35-15 with 8:52 to play in the opening half. Lees-McRae went into the halftime break with the 55-36 lead over Erskine.
  • Smith registered a layup to give the Bobcats the 24 point advantage and Florence followed with a jumper at 85-59. Erskine cut the lead to nine points, but Lees-McRae earned the 102-91 win on the campus of Milligan University.
  • Florence led all scorers with 27 points on 7-12 shooting and 9-12 from the free-throw line. He added nine assists and seven rebounds in 27 minutes of action.
  • Smith had 21 points on 8-11 from the field to go along with three rebounds and one assist. Brandon Brown tallied 14 points on 4-6 shooting and Travis Pourciau rounded the Bobcats in double figures with 14 points and four rebounds.
  • Lees-McRae had its best shooting performance of the season with 34 made field goals and shot  60.7% from the floor. The Bobcats knocked down 13 three-pointers and 53 points off the bench.

FOR THE FLYING FLEET:
  • Monroe had a team-high 24 points for Erskine and Jayden Byrd followed with 23 points on 5-6 from three-point range. Moses Cheek rounded out the Flying Fleet in double-digit scoring with 16 points.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's basketball travels to Daytona Beach, Florida for the 2024 Bahama House Classic hosted by Embry-Riddle on Friday, December 20. The Bobcats play Coker on Friday at 5 p.m.
