Men's Basketball Concludes Florida Trip with 94-90 Loss to Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Lees-McRae men's basketball suffered a 94-90 loss to Embry-Riddle in the final day of the 2024 Bahama House Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dre Nelson had a season-high 12 points to lead the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nelson knocked in an opening three-pointer to give Lees-McRae the three-point advantage. Anthony Parker knotted the game at 30-30 with a three at the 10:12 mark of the first half.
  • Embry-Riddle pushed its lead to four points, but the Bobcats tied the matchup once again at 44. The Eagles led at the halftime break 46-45.
  • Travis Pourciau scored a layup 19 seconds into the second half and Ja'Quavian Florence collected a layup to give Lees-McRae the 49-46 advantage.
  • Embry-Riddle went on a 17-3 run to take the seven-point advantage, but the Bobcats turned the momentum back on their side and regained the slim margin at 74-73.
  • The Eagles regained the advantage once more and held off the Bobcats for the 94-90 victory on their home court.
  • Nelson had a team-high 12 points on 5-9 from the field and added four rebounds and four assists. Florence followed with 11 points and Oli Smith poured in 11 points.
  • Nigel Okwakol rounded out Lees-McRae scorers in double-digit scoring with 10 points in 14 minutes of play.
  • Lees-McRae went 35-66 (53.0%) from the field with five-three pointers and 15-20 from the free-throw line.

FOR THE EAGLES:
  • Dru Nickson had a game-high 26 points for Embry-Riddle and Jerry Bracey II collected 22 points on 9-11 from the field. Milan Skoric contributed 13 points. Jared Berry and Michael McCalister each had 10 points in today's outing.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae men's basketball returns to the court on January 4 at Mount Olive at 4 p.m. for Conference Carolinas play.
