Men's Soccer Powers Past Shorter, 8-0, in Conference Carolinas Opener

ROME, Ga. – Lees-McRae men's soccer recorded an 8-0 win in its Conference Carolinas opener at Shorter this afternoon. Jonas Bartelt paced the Bobcats with a hat trick and five more Bobcats registered a goal on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Shalom Akinbulumo had the first opportunity on goal for Shorter at the 13th minute mark, but Jonathan Kienle made his first of five saves on the day.
  • Gray Smith and Harrison Watts had shots on target, but Shorter held the Bobcats scoreless in the first 30 minutes of the match. G. Smith gave Lees-McRae the 1-0 lead off a corner kick from Fletcher Dyson in the 34th minute.
  • Bartelt doubled the Bobcat lead with his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute and Lees-McRae headed into the break with a two-goal advantage.
  • Caden Pierce contributed the third goal of the contest in the 60th minute for the Bobcats and Bartelt added his second goal in the 73rd minute. Watts buried a goal two minutes later.
  • Bartelt tallied a hat trick in the 88th minute off an assist from Owen Smith and Oskar Lindegård finished the game with a goal with 17 seconds remaining. Aron Disher collected an assist on Lindegård's goal.
  • Dyson and O. Smith registered two assists in the commanding victory.
  • The eight goals scored are the most in program history since Lees-McRae defeated Newberry 8-2 in October 2018.
FOR THE HAWKS:
  • Akinbulumo and Miguel Souza each collected two shots on goal for Shorter.
  • Rasmus Berg made four saves in goal for the Hawks.
