BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's soccer opened its home slate on Sunday afternoon, but Newberry picked up the 1-0 victory after a late goal in the second half.
Chiara Coppin made three saves in goal for the Bobcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Gwen O'Brien had the first chance on goal for Lees-McRae in the third minute, but Newberry's Aubrey Cripe collected the save.
- Coppin matched Cripe with her first stop of the day in the 21st minute off a shot from Bella Gonzales.
- Addy Geiss had a shot hit the post in the 33rd minute and Lexi Hanson narrowly missed her chance with the follow-up shot.
- Gonzales sent the ball into the back in the 81st minute off a pass from Kelsey Brustuen to give the Wolves the one-goal advantage.
- Haley Lowman and Brooke Allen had opportunities in the follow seven minutes of today's contest, but Lees-McRae dropped its home opener to Newberry, 1-0.
FOR THE WOLVES:
- Bella Gonzales scored her second goal of the season in the 81st minute. Kelsey Brustuen recorded the assist.
- Cripe made four net saves for Newberry and recorded her second clean sheet for the season.
