Men's Volleyball Opens Season with Loss at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's volleyball dropped its season opener to Catawba on Friday evening, 3-0,  in Goodman Arena. Ben Fincham had a team-high six kills on a .357 hitting percentage for the Bobcats and Thiago Da Silva contributed 23 assists in the match.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Catawba def. Lees-McRae, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 26-24)
LOCATION: Goodman Arena – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Catawba (2-2), Lees-McRae (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Catawba gained the first set at 25-12 and took the second set by a score of 25-18. The Bobcats battled in the final set and had a set point at 24-23, but Catawba took the set at 26-24.
  • The Bobcats had a .132 hitting percentage to Catawba's .384 in the match. Lees-McRae had its best set in the third with a .176 hitting percentage and 12 kills in the final set.
  • Fincham paced the Bobcats with seven kills on a .357 hitting percentage and Sebastian Heer followed with six kills. Austin Beaird and Lincoln Scofield tallied four kills in the opening match.
  • Da Silva had 23 assists for the Bobcats and Ben Ratliff-Becher collected eight digs in three sets played.

FOR CATAWBA:
  • Trevor Phillips led the Catawba Indians with 14 kills on a .619 hitting percentage. Kristian Smith recorded 35 assists in the match.
