Men's Basketball Rallies Late for the 93-90 Victory at Chowan on Tuesday Night

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Lees-McRae men's basketball finished tonight's game on a 16-4 run to earn the 93-90 win over Chowan in Conference Carolinas play. Ja'Quavian Florence connected on the go-ahead shot with three seconds remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nico Ashley and DJ Kent got the Bobcats on the board first with four quick points in 54 seconds. Lees-McRae built a seven-point lead at the 10:26 mark of the first half off two free throws from Ashley.
  • The Bobcats used two more free throws at the end of the first half for the 46-40 advantage, but Chowan's Daylan Askew cut the deficit in half with a three-pointer at the buzzer.
  • Lees-McRae added to its lead to start the second half and led by 10 points off a three from Anthony Parker. Kent gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game at 12 points off a fastbreak layup.
  • Chowan used a 14-2 run in a little under three minutes to gain the 61-60 lead. The two sides traded the lead before the Hawks held the nine-point advantage with 4:31 to play in regulation.
  • Lees-McRae then finished the game on a 16-4 scoring run and Florence connected on a mid-range jumper for the game-winning basket at 91-90. Florence added to the lead with two free throws for the 93-90 final score.
  • The Bobcats went 51.6% (32-62) from the field with nine three-pointers and were 20-23 from the free-throw line.
  • Florence had a team-high 25 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 30 minutes for the Bobcats. Parker collected 18 points on 7-13 from the field and Nigel Okwakol followed with 12 points off the bench.
  • Ashley had eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and two assists to fill the stat sheet and Kent joined him with eight points, six boards, and one steal.
FOR THE HAWKS:
  • Askew had a game-high 32 points on 10-14 shooting and recorded five assists, two blocks, and two assists in 39 minutes played. RJ Wilson collected 14 points and seven rebounds for Chowan. Damerius Summers rounded out the Hawks in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

Lees-McRae men's basketball heads to Franklin Springs, Georgia for a league matchup against Emmanuel on Saturday at 4 p.m.
