Hairston and Tillery Combine for 36 Points in Women's Basketball's Loss to North Greenville, 59-51

BANNER ELK, N.C. – In the first game back on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court since September 25, 2024, Lees-McRae women's basketball battled Conference Carolinas opponent, North Greenville, on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats fell to North Greenville, 59-51, as Nadiya Hairston and Layla Tillery combined for 36 points for the Bobcats.

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (5-7/3-5), North Greenville (3-9/3-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tillery opened the scoring with a jumper at the 9:16 mark of the first quarter. The Bobcats led the Trailblazers 18-12 and held the four-point margin at the end of the first period.
  • North Greenville held the Bobcats to four points in the second quarter and recorded an eight-point lead heading into the halftime break.
  • In the third quarter, Lees-McRae chipped away at the lead and trailed by three in the first 38 seconds. NGU built its lead back to eight points with the 46-38 advantage at the end of the quarter.
  • Hairston cut the deficit to four points with 56 seconds remaining in the contest, but North Greenville held on for the 59-51 win on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court.
  • Hairston led all scorers with 19 points and added six rebounds in the game. Tillery followed with 17 points and Sandra Mason rounded out the Bobcats in double figures with 10 points and four boards. Emily Barr had five points and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench.

FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS:
  • Tabitha Littlefield paced the Trailblazers with 14 points on 7-13 shooting and Ja'Mari Frederick followed with 12 points. Abi Oates rounded out NGU in double-digit scoring with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Lees-McRae women's basketball hosts Barton on Saturday, January 11 at 2 p.m. on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court.
