Women's Basketball Falls Short in Rally against King, 68-61

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae women's basketball battled back from a 15 point halftime deficit, but the Bobcats ultimately fell short to King in Conference Carolinas play, 68-61, on Saturday afternoon.

LOCATION: McNair & Debi Tornow Court – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: King (3-4/1-1); Lees-McRae (5-3/2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • King jumped out to a seven-point lead after a three-pointer from Mary Elizabeth Fox with 3:11 to play in the first quarter. The Tornado led by 15 at the end of the first half.
  • The Bobcats cut the lead to nine points with 2:01 left in the third quarter after a made free throw from Kirsten Watt. Lees-McRae slashed the lead to four points off a jumper from Nadiya Hairston.
  • Kaylee Carson knotted the score at 50 with 7:37 in the fourth quarter and the Bobcats took the lead off a made basket from Carson with 2:08 at 59-58.
  • King regained the lead at 60-59 and held off the Bobcats for the 68-61 win on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court.
  • Carson had a career-high 26 points in 35 minutes for the Bobcats along with seven rebounds and two steals. Hairston joined her in double figures with 10 points, four blocks, and four assists.

Lees-McRae women's basketball is idle for the week for exams and returns to the court next Saturday against Southern Wesleyan at 2 p.m in Banner Elk.
