RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team combined to score 21 runs in the doubleheader sweep against Shaw this afternoon in Raleigh.
Allie Johnston and
Maycee Tickle led the Bobcats with four RBIs apiece in the two wins.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 9, Shaw – 3
LOCATION: William Peace Softball Field – Raleigh, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (1-2); Shaw (0-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Taylor Beurrier scored the first run of the game after a leadoff walk and rounded out the bases. Johnston singled home two runs in third inning for the 3-1 lead.
- Lees-McRae continued to add to its lead with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. Johnston recorded a RBI double in the fifth and Beurrier scored on the swing.
- Haylea Huffines sent a two-run home run over the wall and Logan Zephir scored also for the 7-3 advantage. The Bobcats defeated Shaw, 9-3, in the opening game of the doubleheader.
- Johnston went 2-3 at the plate with three RBIs and one walk. Hatley and Zephir joined Johnston with two hits apiece.
- Georgia McConnell earned the victory in the circle after throwing four and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three strikeouts.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 12, Shaw – 1 F/5
LOCATION: William Peace Softball Field – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (2-2); Shaw (0-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maycee Tickle led the Bobcats at the plate in the second game of the doubleheader with four RBIs on two hits and one run scored. The Bobcats tallied five runs in the second inning and placed four runs across home plate in the fourth inning for the dominant 12-1 win in five innings.
- Johnston and Avery Walston joined Tickle with multiple hits and Johnston plated two runs in the contest.
- Logan Zephir recorded the win after going three full innings in the start and only allowing one run (one earned) on four hits and one strikeout. Charlotte Lowry followed in relief and went two innings and only allowed one hit.
