Fourth-Quarter Comeback Falls Short for Flag Football in Loss at Daytona State, 21-14

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Lees-McRae flag football team was back on the field this afternoon as the Bobcats faced Daytona State, 2025 NJCAA National Finalist, in Daytona Beach. The Bobcats fell to the Falcons, 21-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mackenzie Walker intercepted the first pass of today's contest and returned the ball to the five-yard line.
  • Makenzie Hicks put the Bobcats on the board first with a five-yard rushing touchdown for the 6-0 lead.
  • Daytona State found the endzone with 9:56 remaining in the first half and added the extra point for the 7-6 lead. The Falcons went into halftime with the 7-6 lead.
  • Daytona State added to its lead in the third quarter off a 28-yard pass from Shania Spencer. The Falcons led by eight heading into the final quarter.
  • Hicks found Ava Rivera off a lateral pass for the 50-yard score that cut the deficit to 21-14 after the two-point conversion was successful.
  • Lees-McRae forced Daytona State to punt with 10 seconds remaining, but Hicks' pass was intercepted at the 33-yard line for the final play of the game.
  • Hicks went 16-36 with 187 passing yards and recorded two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) to her season totals. Natalia Hernández de León and Ashley Alvarado led the Bobcats with five receptions apiece. Hernández de León tallied 53 receiving yards and Rivera had the lone receiving touchdown.
  • Kennedy Vannoy led the defense with eight total tackles. Kamora Brown followed with five and one interception. Tami Chatwood and Sofia Antwi-Silva combined for three sacks in the contest.
