Softball Goes 1-1 in Conference Carolinas Opener at Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Taylor Beurrier and Allie Johnston registered two RBIs in the Bobcats' opening game for the 12-3 win over Converse. The Lees-McRae softball team split the opening Conference Carolinas series with Converse on Tuesday afternoon.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 12, Converse – 3
LOCATION: Tyger River Stadium – Spartanburg, South Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (7-8/1-0); Converse (4-17/0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae used a two-out rally for the first run of the contest in the first inning. Maycee Tickle brought home Johnston on an RBI single.
  • The Bobcats regained the lead in the fourth with three runs for the 4-1 lead. Tickle scored on a throwing error from Converse and Brooks Eaddy scored on an RBI single from Destiny Brown for the 3-1 advantage.
  • Lees-McRae broke the game wide open in the fifth with eight total runs for the 12-1 margin. Johnston collected a two RBI single up the middle for the 12-1 lead.
  • Converse scored two runs in the fifth inning, but Dayna Patten closed the game for the 12-3 Conference Carolinas win over Converse this afternoon.
  • Johnston and Tickle led the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Beurrier and Johnston tallied two RBIs each in the opening game.
  • Georgia McConnell recorded the win in the circle after only allowing three runs (three earned) on seven hits in four and one--thirds innings pitched.

RECORDS: Converse (5-17/1-1); Lees-McRae (7-9/1-1)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Converse scored six runs in the fourth inning to earn the split in today's doubleheader. The Valkyries won 8-2 at the Tyger River Stadium.
  • Eaddy went 2-3 from the plate in the second game with one RBI. Johnston had two hits alos and Tickle registered the other RBI in the game.
  • Haley Littrell went three full innings and surrendered two runs (one earned) in the start.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae hosts Southern Wesleyan in the Bobcats' home opener on Saturday, March 7. The first pitch from Banner Elk is scheduled for 1 p.m.
