WISE, Va. – Allie Johnston registered three RBIs across two games today, but Lees-McRae softball fell to UVA Wise and Concord on the first day of the UVA Wise Softball Tournament.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: UVA Wise – 10, Lees-McRae – 3
LOCATION: Bill Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: UVA Wise (12-3); Lees-McRae (5-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Taylor Beurrier led off the game with a single to right field and scored on a groundout RBI from Allie Johnston for the 1-0 lead. UVA Wise scored six runs in the bottom of the first for the 6-1 advantage.
- Avery Walston started the second inning with a single up the middle and advanced to third on a double from Brooks Eaddy. Beurrier brought Walston home on a fielder's choice as the Bobcats trailed by four.
- Eaddy scored on a throwing error by UVA Wise's catcher for the third run of the game for Lees-McRae. UVA Wise picked up the 10-3 win in the first game of the day.
- Beurrier, Walston, Eaddy, and Kierstin Kemper all tallied one hit each in the contest. Beurrier and Johnston recorded one RBI apiece in the game.
- Logan Zephir suffered the loss after allowing five runs (five earned) in the start. Emma Bigby threw four and one-third innings of relief and scattered six hits in the appearance.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Concord – 11, Lees-McRae – 3 F/6
LOCATION: Bill Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: Concord (8-3); Lees-McRae (5-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Allie Johnston pushed the Bobcats out to the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run.
- Concord answered in the top of the second with five runs. Lees-McRae cut the deficit to two runs in the second after Walston scored on the throw.
- The Mountain Lions added four more runs in the fourth and claimed the 11-3 win in six innings.
- Eaddy went 2-3 from the plate in the second game. Johnston added two RBIs off her home run and Maycee Tickle joined Johnston with one hit in the contest.
- Bigby took the loss for the Bobcats in the circle after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in one and one-third innings pitched.

Lees-McRae will look to bounce tomorrow with contests against Ursuline and UVA Wise starting at 12 p.m. in Wise, Virginia.
