Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae women's tennis team captured
another win Saturday afternoon at home, sweeping the visiting
Milligan College Lady Buffs 9-0. The Lady Bobcats have won three
of four matches in the last eight days with their only loss coming
at the hands of Div I opponent Appalachian State to improve their
record to 3-3 overall. Milligan falls to 1-1 on the season.
Winston-Salem native, freshman Christine
Vanard grabbed her fourth straight victory in the #1 spot this
afternoon defeating the Lady Buffs' Melissa Grgat handily (6-1,
6-0). Freshman Andrea
Balazsova (Prague, Czech Republic) once again battled a lengthy
match, coming out on the winning end for the third time in four
matches, beating her opponent 6-1, 6-7(5)6-4.
Ashley
Mayers (Miami, FL), at the three spot, captured her third win
of the year while freshman Amanda
Nascimento (Vitoria, Brazil) took her fourth. In shortened
matches both Cameron
Joyce (Lenoir, NC) and Katie
Hawkins (Old Fort, NC) defeated their competition for the
singles sweep.
Coach Paul Goode paired freshmen Balazsova/Nascimento together
for #1 doubles, Joyce/Vanard for the two spot, and the duo of
Mayers/Hawkins for the third. All three coubles teams defeated
their foes with the closest match coming at #1 where the Lady
Bobcats took the 8-5 win.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Greeenville, TN to take on
Tusculum College on Tuesday, February 26. The match is set to
begin at 2:00pm.
