Due West, SC--The Erskine Lady Fleet, ranked #33 nationally,
flew over the visiting Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats 8-1 Tuesday
afternoon, extending their conference winning streak to 45. The
Lady Fleet improve to 10-2 overall and 7-0 among Conference
Carolinas opponents, while the Lady Bobcats fall to 6-5 (3-2
conference).
Freshman Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, NC) saw her eight game
winning streak snapped Tuesday afternoon when senior Jennifer
Gennaoui of the Lady Fleet turned out a strong performance to take
the 6-2, 6-1 win. The only point for the Lady Bobcats in the match
came from #3 Ashley Mayers (Miami, FL) as she gritted out a three
set win (5-7, 6-3, 1-0{10-1}) over Mary Claire Rollins. The Lady
Fleet took wins over #2 Andrea Balaszova (Prague, Czech Republic),
#4 Amanda Nascimento (Vitoria, Brazil), #5 Cameron Joyce (Lenoir,
NC) and #6 Katie Hawkins (Old Fort, NC).
In doubles actions the Lady Bobcats were unable to stop sweep by
the Fleet with Nascimento/Balaszova falling 8-0 in the #1 duo of
Gennaoui/Kacie Knox. Both #2 Joyce/Vanard and #3 Mayers/Hawkins
fell 8-4 to Erskine.
The Lady Bobcats will resume play at Tusculum College on Friday,
March 21. First serve is set for 1:00pm.
