BELMONT, N.C. --- The
Lees-McRae College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over
Belmont Abbey College on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas
play.
Lees-McRae (1-1, 1-0 CC) surrendered just four games in doubles
play against Belmont Abbey (0-2, 0-2 CC), while not dropping a set
in singles action.
Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Lindsay Peagram
(Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Brooke Ingram and Molly Gwaltney
(Colorado Springs, Colo.) 8-0 in the first doubles matchup, while
Maria Andrade (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Kelsey Hiatt (Mt. Airy,
N.C.) posted an 8-1 win over Bridget Franer and Paige Frenener in
the afternoon's second pairing. Raven Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.) and
Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) then recorded an 8-3 win over Amy
Poetker and Emily Rogers in the third doubles matchup of the
day.
Vanard gave Lees-McRae a 4-0 lead in the first singles matchup,
defeating Ingram 6-0, 6-1. Peagram continued her strong
early-season play in the second singles pairing, sweeping Gwaltney
6-0, 6-0 to secure the victory for the Bobcats. Andrade then
defeated Franer 6-0, 6-0 before Hiatt slid past Frenener by scores
of 6-1, 6-1. Harris followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Poetker
before Roberson closed the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over
Rogers.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Sunday when the Bobcats make
the short trip to Boone, N.C. to take on NCAA Division I
Appalachian State University in a 4 p.m. matchup.
