MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- The Mount Olive College
women's tennis team swept doubles play and won five of the day's
six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over visiting
Lees-McRae College on Monday evening in Conference Carolinas
action.
Mount Olive's (8-3, 4-2 CC) Pietra Viana and Sofia Medeiros
edged Lees-McRae's (1-5, 1-2 CC) Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem,
N.C.) and Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) by a score of 9-8
(7-5) in the first doubles flight, while Marine Becker and Patricia
Guedes defeated Maria Andrade (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Kelsey
Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) by an 8-4 margin in the second matchup.
Camila Kurebayashi and Noelia Mora then knocked off Renee Roberson
(Salisbury, N.C.) and Raven Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.) by a score of
8-3 in the third doubles flight.
Vanard cut the margin to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Becker in
the first singles flight before Viana avenged the loss for Mount
Olive with a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory against Peagram.
Medeiros then defeated Andrade, 6-3, 6-0, before Kurebayashi
knocked off Hiatt, 6-2, 6-0. Mora swept Roberson, 6-0, 6-0 at the
No. 5 matchup before Guedes closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win
over Harris.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 22 when the
Bobcats travel to Wilson, N.C. to take on Barton College at 2
p.m.
