MISENHEIMER, N.C. --- The Pfeiffer University
women's tennis team won two of three matches in doubles play, and
swept singles action en route to an 8-1 win over Lees-McRae College
on Sunday in Conference Carolinas action.
Lees-McRae's (2-9, 2-6 CC) top-flight duo of Christine Vanard
(Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Maria Andrade (Middle Village, N.Y.)
opened the afternoon with a hard-fought 9-8 (7-4) victory over
Pfeiffer's (10-9, 6-3 CC) tandem of Alena Krutkina and Cari Hopson
to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead. Catie Thomas and Briana
Oliver answered for Pfeiffer, defeating Lyndsay Peagram
(Greensboro, N.C.) and Kelsey Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) by a tally
of 9-8 (7-4).
Chelsi Haefele and Kayleigh Featherstone closed doubles play
with an 8-2 win over Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) and Raven
Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.), before Krutkina opened singles action
with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Vanard. Thomas continued the trend for
the Falcons with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Peagram, as Hopson tallied
the deciding point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Andrade at No. 3
singles.
Haefele posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hiatt at No. 4 singles, while
Oliver defeated Roberson, 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth flight.
Featherstone then capped the day with a hard-fought 6-7 (4-7), 6-2,
(14-12) win over Harris.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Tuesday when the Bobcats
host Converse College in a battle for the seventh seed in next
weekend's Conference Carolinas Tournament. Play is scheduled to
begin at 2:30 p.m.
