MARS HILL, N.C. --- The Mars Hill College
women's tennis team swept doubles play and won two of the top three
singles flights en route to a 7-2 win over Lees-McRae College in
non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill's (3-3) duo of Erika Pinate and Tatiana Dualiby opened
the day with an 8-1 win over Lees-McRae's (0-1) Lyndsay Peagram
(Greensboro, N.C.) and Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada),
before Anna Rickenbaker and Jacqueline Rouquet registered an 8-0
victory against Kelsey Hiatt (Mt. Airy, N.C.) and Raven Harris (St.
Pauls, N.C.) in the second flight. Mars Hill was then awarded the
third doubles match by default.
Pinate gave the Lions a 4-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-3 win over
Peagram before Rickenbaker sealed the victory with a 6-0, 6-2
victory against Hiatt in the third singles flight. Wohlers earned a
hard-fought 7-6, 2-6, 10-3 win against Dualiby in the second
flight, as Harris defeated Jordan Dockery in the fourth matchup,
6-0, 0-6, 11-9. Mars Hill was awarded the fifth and sixth singles
flights by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Monday when the Bobcats
travel to Newberry, S.C. to take on Newberry College at 1 p.m.
