BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae College
women's tennis team picked up its first win of the Conference
Carolinas season on Wednesday, edging King College by a 4-3
margin.
Lees-McRae's (1-7, 1-4 CC) tandem of Lyndsay Peagram
(Greensboro, N.C.) and Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada)
opened the afternoon with an 8-0 victory over King's (2-8, 0-4 CC)
duo of Karissa King and Kayla Ketron, before Eden Sherrod and Sarah
Anders evened the tally for the Tornado with an 8-4 win against
Raven Harris (St. Pauls, N.C.) and Kelsey Hiatt (Mt. Airy,
N.C.).
The Bobcats responded in singles play, taking the first three
flights to open a 4-1 advantage. Peagram opened singles action at
No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-0 win against King, while Wohlers followed with
a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Anderson. Hiatt then defeated Ketron, 6-4,
6-3, as Sherrod won her fourth-flight match against Harris, 6-3,
7-6. King was awarded the fifth singles flight by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Saturday when the Bobcats
travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to resume their conference slate
against Converse College at 1 p.m.
