BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Barton College women's
tennis team swept doubles play and took four of six singles matches
en route to a 7-2 victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference
Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.
Barton's (8-7, 4-3 CC) duo of Mika Deane and Lindsey Frederick
opened the day with an 8-3 win over Lees-McRae's (1-11, 1-7 CC)
tandem of Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) and Samantha Wohlers
(Windsor, Ontario, Canada), before Alicia Lasry and Caroline
Fischer defeated Kelsey Hiatt (Mt. Airy, N.C.) and Raven Harris
(St. Pauls, N.C.), 8-5. Barton was awarded the third doubles flight
by default.
Deane kicked off singles action with a 6-2, 6-4 win against
Peagram, as Wohlers countered with a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 win
over Lasry in the second flight. Kristy Lievense defeated Hiatt,
6-4, 6-1 in the third flight, before Harris won 6-0, 6-3 against
Taylor Futrell at No. 4 singles. Barton was awarded the fifth and
sixth flights by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Tuesday when the Bobcats
host Carson-Newman College at 2 p.m.
