LINVILLE, N.C. --- The Coker College women's
tennis team swept both doubles and singles play on Sunday afternoon
en route to a 9-0 win over Lees-McRae College in Conference
Carolinas play at Grandfather Mountain Country Club.
Coker's (4-3, 3-0 CC) duo of Alyssa Blanchard and Stephanie
Medley kicked off the day with an 8-5 win over Lees-McRae's (0-4,
0-2 CC) pairing of Lyndsay Peagram (Greensboro, N.C.) and Samantha
Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada). Cora Berna and Kayla Meermans
defeated Kelsey Hiatt (My. Airy, N.C.) and Raven Harris (St. Pauls,
N.C.) by a score of 8-1, as Coker was awarded the third doubles
flight by default.
Blanchard gave Coker a 4-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-4 win over
Peagram at No. 1 singles, as Berna defeated Wohlers, 6-4, 6-3 in
the second singles flight. Medley won the third flight, 7-6 (7-4),
6-2 over Hiatt, while Faith Baxley rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-2
victory against Harris. Coker was awarded the fifth and sixth
flights by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Wednesday, March 14 when the
Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens University of
Charlotte in conference play at 12 p.m.
