SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's tennis put on a powerful performance while five bouts were decided in straight sets as LMC blanked Spartanburg Methodist, 9-0, Monday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Bobcats (1-3) picked up their first win on the young season while only dropping seven sets total. The Pioneers (1-4) have dropped three consecutive shutout decisions.
LMC's lone upperclassman, Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) put the Bobcats in the lead early when she breezed past Taylor Littlejohn-Barr, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 1 singles play.
Freshman Caroline Greene (Columbia, Tenn.) replicated her teammates' success with an identical victory at No. 3 singles against Reagan Huggins.
Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) won a hard-fought first set, 6-4, in No. 2 singles action before blanking Taylor Carpenter in the second.
Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) claimed straight set victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Jordan Mayer (Timberlake, N.C.) had minimal trouble when she handled Karsyn Shehan, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 single competition.
The Bobcats dominated doubles play while not dropping a single set.
LMC returns to action with a trip to Lenoir-Rhyne Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
