BOONE, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to cross-town rival Appalachian State in nonconference action Wednesday afternoon at the Yonahlossee Racquet Club in Boone, N.C.
The Mountaineers (3-4) earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles without dropping a game. The Bobcats (1-5) saw strong play from freshman Jordan Mayer (Timberlake, N.C.) at No. 6 singles.
Appalachian State claimed the doubles point after winning both No. 2 and No. 3 play, 8-0.
Sophomore Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) jumped out to a two games to one lead in No. 2 singles competition, but was unable to sustain the lead while falling 6-2, 6-0 to Brianna Armellino.
Mayer took a pair of games, but fell 6-0, 6-2.
The Bobcats return to action when they travel to Due West, S.C. to face Erskine in their Conference Carolina opener March 1 at 1 p.m.
