SALISBURY, N.C. --- Lees-McRae sophomore Hillary Lutz continued her impressive play at No. 2 singles, but LMC dropped an 8-1 decision at Catawba in nonconference play Wednesday afternoon in Salisbury, N.C.
The Indians (9-9) reached the .500 mark by winning No. 3 and No. 5 singles play without dropping a game. The Bobcats (1-7) fell for the fourth consecutive match despite Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) earning back-to back wins.
Bobcat junior Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) was unable to overcome a one-set deficit despite a valiant effort in the second set in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4.
Lutz grabbed the Bobcats' lone win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.
LMC fell in both doubles bouts by identical 8-3 scores.
The Bobcats will enjoy a 10-day break before traveling to Misenheimer, N.C. to battle Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas play at 2 p.m. March 15.
