BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Five different Lees-McRae women's tennis players found the win column, but the squad fell short against Mars Hill, 5-4, at the LMC Tennis Courts Monday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Lions (1-0) took two of the three doubles matches while earning their first win on the young season. The Bobcats (0-2) claimed a win at No. 1 doubles while Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) gutted out a three-set thriller.
Bost dropped the first set, 6-4, but rallied back to win the second, 6-3, and outlasted Jade Henke 10-8 in No. 4 singles action to notch her first win of the season.
The duo of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hillary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) fended off Henke and Samantha Echivarria, 8-6, to grab a win at No. 1 doubles.
Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) took care of business at No. 5 singles against Juliana Fisher, 6-4, 6-3.
Margaret Bumgarner (Hurdle Mills, N.C.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles play.
LMC returns to action when it hosts Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
