BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Senior Hillary Lutz earned a pair of wins, but the Lees-McRae women's tennis team dropped its season-opener, 7-2, to Catawba Wednesday afternoon at the LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Indians (5-1) claimed all but one singles point and have won consecutive matches. The Bobcats (0-1) played shorthanded throughout the contest due to injury.
Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) dominated Kirsten Rocko at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Mackenzie Langmade fell in a three-set thriller in her collegiate debut, 3-6, 6-1, 8-10.
Lutz teamed with Caroline Green (Columbia, Tenn.) to down Erisa Onchi and Emily Corcoran, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles.
This was LMC's lone match of the fall. The Bobcats return to action Feb. 13, 2016 at Lenoir-Rhyne.
