SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's tennis team claimed four wins in singles action, but dropped a heartbreaker, 5-4, in Conference Carolinas action against Converse Sunday morning at the Converse Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Valkyries (1-5, 1-1 CC) earned their first win on the season by winning all three doubles points. The Bobcats (2-7, 0-3) claimed two three-set thrillers in No. 4 & 5 singles play.
Junior Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) earned a convincing win at No. 1 singles by a 6-4, 6-2 score against Alex Schlessener.
Hillary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) cruised to a win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4 against Margaret Pridmore.
Junior Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and sophomore Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) claimed wins in three-set fashion.
Bost rebounded after dropping the first set to win the final two, 6-2, 10-6, respectively at No. 4 singles.
Chapman also had to bounce back from a one-set deficit and ousted Taylor L.-Barr by grabbing the last two sets, 6-3, 10-6.
LMC steps out of conference to play Lee Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Tenn.
