BRISTOL, Tenn. --- A trio of Lees-McRae women's tennis players earned two wins each while the team picked up a big win, 8-1, against King (Tenn.) in Conference Carolinas play Friday afternoon at King Tennis Complex in Bristol, Tenn.
The Bobcats (5-12, 3-6 CC) move ½ game up on Belmont Abbey for the eighth and final position in the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament. The Tornado fall to 2-15, 2-9 with the loss.
Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) teamed up with Hillary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) to blank Katya Cerny and Nia Gilliam, 8-0, in No. 1 doubles action.
Wohlers outlasted Gilliam, 6-3, 7-6 (5) in No. 1 singles later in the afternoon.
Lutz didn't drop a set against Haley Maloney at No. 3 singles.
Senior Rachel Grether (Cleremont, Fla.) crusied past Pearl Annan, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.
LMC's Caroline Green (Columbia, Tenn.) and Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) cruised past Amanda Huffaker and Maloney, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Chapman earned her second win of the day in No. 4 singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Amanda Huffaker.
The Bobcats trek to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. in a CC tilt.
