WINGATE, N.C. – Five Bobcats finished with multiple hits this afternoon, but it wasn't enough as Wingate posted a three-run inning in both games to clinch a sweep in the non-conference twin bil.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Wingate – 6; Lees-McRae - 0
LOCATION: Wingate Softball Complex – Wingate, North Carolina
RECORDS: Wingate (6-7), Lees-McRae (2-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Morgan Crowe finished 2 for 3 from the plate to lead the Bobcats in game one.
- Lees-McRae opened the game with a scoring opportunity in the top of the first inning as Sarah Beth Thomas walked and Crowe singled, but the Bobcats failed to push across the first run.
- Wingate finally broke through in the bottom of third with two runs on two hits.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning and added an insurance marker in the bottom of the sixth.
- Raygan Rensing was credited with the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae, scattering five runs on six hits in four innings of work, while Charlsy Traylor gave up one run on one hit in two innings of relief.
FOR THE FOES:
- Haley Cashwell and Heaven Maness each went 2 for 4 from the plate to lead Wingate.
- Raechel Cutcher earned the victory for the Bulldogs, giving up only two hits in seven innings of work.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Wingate – 5; Lees-McRae - 2
LOCATION: Wingate Softball Complex – Wingate, North Carolina
RECORDS: Wingate (7-7), Lees-McRae (2-8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Abby West finished 2 for 2 from the plate with a double and two RBIs to lead the Bobcats in the later game.
- Katelyn Wyatt went 2 for 3 from the dish with a double, while Thomas and Hannah Foster each went 2 for 4, with Foster adding a double and a stolen base.
- Lees-McRae had the game's first scoring chance after a lead-off single by Foster in the top of the second inning, but three-consecutive outs left the game a 0-0.
- Wingate posted a three-run bottom of the third inning on two hits to take the early lead.
- After the Bulldogs scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats used a lead-off double by Wyatt and a single by West to score Amber Corvin, who entered as a pinch-runner.
- Wingate extended the lead to 5-1 with a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth.
- Lees-McRae scored their final run in the top of the sixth off of two singles by Julie Gast and Wyatt and a double by West that scored Meredith Summey.
- Traylor started the game going 3.1 innings and giving up two runs on three hits.
- Wyatt was given the loss for Lees-McRae, giving up three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief.
FOR THE FOES:
- Cashwell and Maness each finished with multiple hits in the second game to pace the Bulldogs.
- Sydney Kale was credited with the win in the circle for Wingate, giving up one run on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.
- Kaitlyn Knuckles picked up the save by giving up only one hit in 1.1 innings.

The Bobcats will return to the field on Sunday, Feb. 28 as they visit Lincoln Memorial for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
