Conference Carolinas Playoff Bracket
BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the third time in the previous four seasons, the Lees-McRae women's basketball team has earned a spot in the Conference Carolinas playoffs, entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed slated to visit No. 1 Belmont Abbey for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Scouting the Bobcats…Lees-McRae closed out the regular season with a 7-9 overall (7-9 Conference Carolinas) record but finished 0-2 against the Crusaders this season.
Senior
Destiny Johnson leads the Bobcats in scoring at 12.4 points/game this season while leading the conference with 30 steals in 16 games played this season. Sophomore
MaKayla Smith is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 points/game this season and is top five in the conference in free throw percentage (.830) and is eighth in assists/game (2.5). Sophomore
Davinique Campbell leads the Bobcats in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds/game this season.
Scouting the Crusaders…Belmont Abbey finished the regular season with a 19-2 overall (15-1 Conference Carolinas) record and is ranked second in scoring (76.3 points/game) and lead the conference by only giving up 58.3 points/game this season.
Senior Brittany Autry leads the Crusaders and is ninth in the conference in scoring at 13.5 points/game while also leading the team in rebounding (6.2 rebounds/game). Seniors Maria Kuhlman and Allie Downing are both also scoring in double figures this season at 12.9 and 12.7 points/game this season.
Postseason history…The Bobcats are 0-2 in playoff appearances in the past five seasons, with the quarterfinal losses coming to Mount Olive in the 2018-19 season and Barton in the 2017-18 season.
What's next…The winner of Tuesday's Conference Carolinas quarterfinal contest will advance to the semifinal on Thursday, March 4 against the winner of No. 5 North Greenville and No. 4 King.
