Softball drops conference twin bill against Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – McKinley Johnson and Katelyn Wyatt finished with multiple hits in game one, with Sarah Beth Thomas chipping in both RBIs, but it was enough as Emmanuel held the visiting Bobcats to only two runs on 10 hits in the doubleheader this afternoon to earn the sweep.  
 
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Emmanuel (Ga.) – 3; Lees-McRae – 2 (8 inn.)
LOCATION: Emmanuel Softball Complex – Franklin Springs, Georgia
RECORDS: Emmanuel (Ga.) (7-14/2-1), Lees-McRae (3-16/0-5)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Johnson went 2 for 3 from the plate, while Wyatt finished 2 for 4 with a run scored.
  • Julie Gast and Hannah Foster both went 1 for 4 with a double, while Mallory Myers chipped in a run scored.
  • Charlsy Traylor and Morgan Crowe also registered a hit in game one.
  • Lees-McRae opened up the scoring in the second inning with one run off of two singles and a pair of walks to take the early lead.
  • Emmanuel evened the score in the bottom of the third with a two-out triple and a double on back-to-back pitches.
  • The Bobcats responded with a sacrifice fly by Thomas that scored Myers from third base to give Lees-McRae a 2-1 lead.
  • The Lions once again evened the score with a single in the bottom of the fifth to force extra innings.
  • Emmanuel clinched the opening-game victory with a double to center field that scored a runner in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Traylor was credited with the loss in the circle, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Mackensie Hogan went 2 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Lions in game one.
  • Kaitlyn Pickens gave up only one earned run on eight hits in eight innings of work to claim the victory.
 
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Emmanuel (Ga.) – 2; Lees-McRae – 0
LOCATION: Emmanuel Softball Complex – Franklin Springs, Georgia
RECORDS: Emmanuel (Ga.) (8-14/3-1), Lees-McRae (3-17/0-6)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Crowe and Abby West both registered a hit in the later game to lead the Bobcats.
  • After three innings of scoreless softball, Emmanuel broke the deadlock with one run on three singles in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Lions tacked on an insurance marker in the bottom of the fifth on three singles, two to center field, that scored their second run of the contest.
  • The Bobcats threatened in the top of the seventh innings as West connected on a one-out single to left field, but a final fielder's choice gave Emmanuel the sweep.
  • Raygan Rensing gave up one earned run on seven hits in six innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Isabelle Petty went 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Kya Santiago and Ally Harris each finished with an RBI in game two.
  • Sydney Blackmon pitched the shutout for Emmanuel, giving up only two hits in seven innings of work.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats host North Greenville in a twin bill on Friday, March 19. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
