Softball splits conference doubleheader at Chowan using three-run inning in game one

MURFREESBORO, N.C.Julie Gast and Hannah Foster went a combined 7 of 14 with five RBIs and three runs scored, while Sarah Beth Thomas tallied two RBIs in game one, to lead the Lees-McRae softball team to a split in the twin bill against host Chowan this afternoon.  
 
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 5; Chowan – 2  
LOCATION: Hawks Field – Murfreesboro, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (6-21/4-8), Chowan (7-18-1/1-8)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Foster and Charlsy Traylor each went 2 for 3 with a run scored, with Foster finishing with two RBIs, to lead the Bobcats in game one.
  • Thomas went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk, while Mallory Myers chipped in an RBI and Gast added a run scored.
  • Addyson Ikard and Amber Corvin also registered a hit, with Corvin adding a run scored.
  • Lees-McRae opened the scoring in the top of the first as Foster tripled to right field with two outs that scored both Traylor and Gast to give the Bobcats the early 2-0 lead.
  • Chowan pushed across one run on two hits in the bottom of the frame to trim the deficit to 2-1.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead in the top of the fourth as Myers grounded out with bases loaded that scored Foster from third base and Thomas sent the next pitch to right-center field that scored both Lauren Ritchie and Corvin.
  • The Hawks closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with a single run on two hits.
  • Traylor earned the game one victory by giving up only one run on two hits, while Raygan Rensing picked up the save.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Five Hawks registered a hit in game one, with both Serena Riley and Kaitlin Brunelli adding an RBI.
  • Keira Teserovitch was credited with the loss in the circle for Chowan, giving up five runs on eight hits in four innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gast went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored in game two to pace the Bobcats.
  • Ikard and Foster both added an RBI, while Corvin went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
  • Traylor and Thomas also registered a hit, with Thomas adding a run scored.
  • Lees-McRae opened the scoring for the second-consecutive game by scoring a pair of runs on a groundout by Ikard and a single by Foster in the top of the first inning.
  • Chowan responded with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take their first lead of the twin bill.
  • The Bobcats scored again in the top of the second inning on a single to right field by Gast that scored Corvin from third.
  • Lees-McRae evened the score at 4-4 in the top of the sixth as Gast once again singled that scored Corvin from third.
  • The Hawks scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the doubleheader split.
  • Rensing was credited with the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae, giving up three earned runs on five hits in five innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Haleigh Reid and Riley both finished with multiple hits in game two to pace the Hawks.
  • Megan Vincent was credited as the winning pitcher for Chowan, giving up only two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings of work.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will close out the Conference Carolinas weekend as they visit Barton for a twin bill starting tomorrow at 12 p.m.
